STUDENT ENRICHMENT

At BBEC, our enrichment provision has a rich legacy of going above and beyond expectations. We recognise the importance of providing students with a wide range of enrichment opportunities that positively impact attendance, attainment, behaviour, aspirations, personal development and wellbeing.

Our enrichment provision is fully supported by the Senior Leadership Team. The main point of contact is Mr Ryan (Assistant Headteacher), who leads on Student Enrichment and Careers (CEIAG). In line with the Department for Education's Enrichment Benchmarks, every student from the start of Year 7 to the end of Year 11 receives access to a wide range of opportunities across the following categories:

  • Civic Engagement

Including volunteering, debating, school democracy and community engagement. Examples include our Prefect System, PROM, First Give and the Senior Citizens' Christmas Meal.

  • Arts and Culture

Including participation in, and live experiences of, music, art, dance, theatre and other expressive arts, alongside visits to museums and galleries. This includes our BDAT Be There event at St George's Hall, as well as flagship events such as Pride Day and Culture Day.

  • Nature, Outdoors and Adventure

Including outdoor learning, climate education, sustainability projects, Go Ape visits, water sports, gardening, the Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh's Award and residential visits.

  • Sport and Physical Activities

Including participation in individual and team sports, dance and fitness activities, cycling, representing the school and attending live sporting events. This includes BBEC and BDAT Sports Days.

  • Developing Wider Life and Future Skills

Including digital literacy, STEM Club, cooking, financial education and enterprise activities. This also includes our Year 8 Positive Choices Day, extensive careers programme and annual Sustainability Conference.

These areas are clearly branded to help students and stakeholders understand the breadth and purpose of our enrichment offer. We place a strong emphasis on encouraging participation and removing barriers that may prevent students from engaging fully.

Please also view our overarching BDAT Student Enrichment Policy.

This commitment is exemplified through our extensive extra-curricular programme, which provides opportunities before school, during the school day and after school. Students can access a wide range of clubs, activities and experiences that support their personal development and interests. Educational trips and visits also play a significant role in our provision, with more than 100 visits taking place during the 2025-26 academic year.

Our Minimum Entitlement programme is shared with students and parents/carers, and participation is celebrated through ARCK stamps, weekly and termly rewards, recognition events and our annual prize-giving evening at Bradford Cathedral. Participation and engagement are also reflected through student reports.

Students and parents/carers receive timely, accessible and clear information about the Minimum Entitlement programme, including details of activities, expectations and how to access opportunities. We publish our programmes on our website and share them with all stakeholders. The extracurricular programme is also recorded within students' ARCK records. In the autumn term, all students receive an assembly outlining their Minimum Entitlement offer, and we set high expectations for participation throughout their time at BBEC.

Our Minimum Entitlement offer is equitable, inclusive and accessible to all students, particularly those who may be at risk of missing out on enrichment opportunities. We carefully consider and address barriers to participation, particularly for students with SEND, through bespoke support and additional provision where appropriate.

We use Power BI to monitor participation across all year groups and key student groups. This information helps us identify trends, address gaps and further develop our enrichment programme. As expected, we place a high priority on engagement from disadvantaged students and use this data to inform future provision. Examples include tailored opportunities for our EHCP, Connect and Bridge students.

We also gather feedback from students, parents/carers, staff and external partners, where appropriate, and work tirelessly to continuously improve our enrichment offer. A good example of this is our flagship Careers Aspirations Evening for Year 10 and Year 11 students, which brings together employers, education providers and industry professionals to inspire future pathways.
