Key Stage 4

YEAR 10

BBEC has introduced a new careers programme and leadership structure for this academic year. This is led by Joe Ryan (Assistant Headteacher – Student Experience), who brings a wealth of experience, expertise and skills to the role.

All Year 10 students will receive the following core offer during this academic year:

• An open invitation to the BBEC Aspiration Event, taking place during the autumn term, which will be attended by over 60 employers, training and apprenticeship providers, and educational organisations;
• Period 1 (tutorial) programme, including regular links to careers and future aspirations;
• Two dedicated Careers Weeks, with a focus delivered through Period 3 and assemblies. These take place during the autumn and spring terms;
• Work Experience, with support to find placements with local employers.

In addition to the opportunities outlined above, students will benefit from a range of bespoke careers events and activities throughout the year. These include talks, workshops and presentations delivered by employers, industry experts, apprenticeship providers, colleges and universities, providing students with valuable careers information, advice and guidance.

During Science Week each March, there is a particular focus on careers linked to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Through employer encounters, guest speakers and enrichment activities, students are introduced to the exciting opportunities available within these sectors, helping to raise aspirations and develop a sense of curiosity, awe, and wonder about future careers.

All of our careers provision is carefully mapped against the Career Development Institute (CDI) Framework to ensure the highest quality of planning, delivery, outcomes and impact for our students.

Framework for careers, employability and enterprise education

YEAR 11

BBEC has introduced a new careers programme and leadership structure for this academic year. This is led by Joe Ryan (Assistant Headteacher – Student Experience). Mr Ryan brings a wealth of experience, expertise and skills to the role.

All Year 11 students will receive the following core offer during this academic year:

• Individual Careers Interviews, which will take place during the autumn and spring terms. These interviews will support students in planning their next steps and will link closely with the BBEC Aspiration Evening;
• An open invitation to the BBEC Aspiration Evening, taking place during the autumn term, which will be attended by over 60 employers, training and apprenticeship providers, and educational organisations;
• Period 1 (tutorial) programme, including regular links to careers and future aspirations;
• Two dedicated Careers Weeks, with a focus delivered through Period 3 and assemblies. These take place during the autumn and summer terms.

In addition, there will be bespoke events involving expert speakers from outside school, who will provide additional careers information, advice and guidance. During Science Week in March, there will also be a focus on careers linked to a range of STEM subjects, inspiring students and introducing a sense of awe and wonder about future opportunities.

All of our careers provision is mapped against the CDI Framework¹ to ensure the highest quality of planning, outcomes and impact for our students.
