Vision:

Our vision in the Social Enterprise faculty is to provide a backbone of skills and understanding transferrable both to the real world and further academic excellence.

THROUGH OUR DIGITAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM WE INTEND TO:

  • Ensure students receive an ambitious curriculum and learn both academically and through practical application which inspire students to enter the world of Computing and IT regardless of protective identities.

  • Spark students’ imagination through a wider knowledge of the digital world including accessibility and knowledge of the digital divide.

  • develop diverse ambitious IT and computer -literate individuals with the ability to think commercially and creatively, to be resilient and solve problems.

  • Promote inclusion and diversity by using a range of role models and case studies in our topics, materials, and resources to help prepare students for the real world.

  • Create opportunities for students to learn practical and transferable employability skills and knowledge which allow learners to progress on a pathway to work or to an apprenticeship.

  • open up the world of computing through access to a diverse range of people from the world of business both in and out of school.

  • Provide opportunities for students to extend their vocabulary and use of standard English language, and for them to apply their mathematical knowledge in different contexts

OUR CURRICULUM IN DIGITAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IS UNIQUE TO BBEC BECAUSE:

  • We give students the opportunity to experience different types of programming in the real world and explore the changing world of computer science.

  • We teach digital literacy ensuring students are knowledgeable and safe when using a variety of digital devices.

  • We provide skills for working life through Information technology giving students the opportunity to be creative and learn how technologies transform lives.

 

KEY STRENGTHS OF THE DIGITAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM:

The Computing curriculum at BBEC exceeds the National Curriculum because:

  • Students will Understand the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science and IT, including programming, abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms, data representation, CS & IT theory and hardware and software.

  • Students will Understand the relationships between different aspects of computer science and IT.

  • Students will Understand and articulate the individual (moral), social (ethical), legal and cultural opportunities and risks of digital technology.

  • Offer students the opportunity to experience using additional applications such as AppShed and gaming and video editing software.

  • We work collaboratively with other subjects to reduce cognitive load and pull areas of curriculums together to deepen learning.

  • Students are provided with independent learning resources that can be accessed through Teams & KnowItAll Ninja to develop their own knowledge on their own and to address any gaps that they may have. This enables them to develop their knowledge over time in a way that is most effective for their individual needs.

  • We have experienced teachers with long term experience teaching key stage 3-5 in It & Computer Science.

  • The curriculum provides the skills and knowledge to set students up to study Computer Science at KS5.

  • Deliver engaging challenging lessons which have led to good results and a popular choice for options.

AMBITION in Digital Information Technology means....

  • Analysing problems in computational terms through the practical experience of solving problems, including writing programs to do so.

  • Can apply skills, knowledge and understanding to solve problems.

  • Use mathematics to express computational laws and processes and problem solving in both theoretical and practical ways using: Algorithms, Data types and data structures, Number representations and bases.

RESILIENCE in Digital Information Technology means....

  • Being able to learn new skills, accepting that everyday computer use is not the same as professional computing use and adapting accordingly.

  • Recognising a wider world of computing skills, understanding and use.

COURTESY AND KINDNESS in Digital Information Technology means...

  • Teaching students how to be kind and show courtesy when using social media for good, and aware of a diverse audience when using digital platforms.
